The Braxton Sofa

It had been nearly 72 hours since my body felt the healing powers of a REM cycle.

It felt even longer for my mind and soul.

Uncontrollable protesting by the minority party had resulted in the reigning leadership to move into survival mode. Frantically, we began distributing rations to calm the crowds. Working through deep hope and side-by-side in the restoration efforts, we witnessed the complete destruction of our homeland.

When the protesters seemed to have hit a valley in their raids, we were advised to retreat before the next advancement began.

In desperation, we fled to a welcoming alliance. With open arms, we were given food, water, encouragement, wisdom, and the coveted promise of rest.

It’s here where I collapsed into the unicorn of sofas. The deep cushions and arms enveloped my weakened state and transported me into anesthesia-level sleep. The rest afforded to me was all that could have saved me in my physically and mentally worn state.

But those are the battles we fight when we choose to become… new parents.
