Finding the Perfect Bedside Table

May 25th 2021

If you think finding a bedside table is going to be easy and something you should leave off until the end, think again. If you do this, you’ll likely end up being a bit frustrated, a bit disappointed and a whole lot annoyed if you left the small detail to the end. Set yourself up right to not settle for something you don’t love – even the bedside table.

As people who have made this mistake before, we’re here to help you find the perfect bedside table.

Select a Style

Settle on the style of the bedroom first. If you’re feeling wishy washy on which style, look at bedside tables in different styles first. Are you going mid-century modern? Sticking to vintage? Going 100% modern? Remember, bedside tables are often an item that usually looks better as a pair, so it does have the ability to impact the overall style.

Measure Your Space

Measure your room to determine if you want one or two bedside tables. Nightstands can either take up a little room or too much room, so make sure you’re prepared with a visual ahead of time. Don’t forget to keep the height of your bed in mind too. Too high or too low won’t be helpful or aesthetically pleasing. Try using tape on the floor in the dimensions of your bed and nightstands to get a visual of how it may look and feel.

Select Your Finishes

Pick a color or stain you’ll like for a while. These pieces aren’t going anywhere and you want to make sure you’ll enjoy looking at them every morning before coffee and everynight as you call it a day. Also, make sure that you identify a wood that will last and is finished off with hardware that accents the rest of your space.

Envision it Styled

We hardly ever leave a nightstand empty so picture your bedside table with a pretty plant or lamp on it. Oftentimes we think of this piece without styling, but most likely you’ll use a stack of books, plants, or picture frames to add to it.

Extra Storage

Do you need storage space? Where are you going to put the books you want to keep closeby? Keep storage space in mind as you search. If you have a small room this space is valuable. Consider what type of storage you value too. Do you want things hidden in drawers and behind doors? Or is open shelving comfortable to you?

Prepare, but don’t overthink your nightstand too much. You still want to have some fun finding the ideal accent piece that serves as a functional purpose as well. It will hold your books, coffee cups, and all the things you pull out of your pocket at the end of the night. Just make sure you like it.
